This month’s program will highlight Part-one of the
International Place Neighborhood tour, an area located
within the historic business district in the City of
Harrisburg located on Third and Chestnut Streets. Situated
in the heart of this neighborhood is the International
House, an independent non-profit organization housing
students and interns from around the world and which
recently marked its fifth anniversary. This eclectic
collection of students is interested in furthering their
education and sharing in a cultural experience in such a
unique and exciting environment. In Part-one of this show,
Piccola tours the residential quarters and talks with
students and community partners affiliated with the
International House.
Part-two of this series will air in the New Year and feature the restaurants and
businesses located in the International Place Neighborhood including Bricco, The
Benjamin Olewine III Culinary Arts Center, Olewine’s Meat and Cheese House, Ciao
Bakery, and the El Sol Restaurant. In the New Year, Part-three will showcase the
final stops of the tour with visits to the Messiah College Harrisburg Institute
facility and the Harrisburg University of Science and Technology.

This month's program is a behind the scenes tour of Harrisburg Area Community
College's (HACC) new $14 million "Midtown II" building, the former Evangelical
Press Building at Third and Reily Streets in Harrisburg. Powers and Associates,
a private developer, converted the 90-year old building into offices,
classrooms, and workshops where more than 3,000 HACC students and instructors
will spend their time. During the program, Piccola and Representative Ron Buxton
also present HACC with a $1.5 million check for the new academic center.
Finally, Mayor Stephen Reed and HACC President Edna Baehre discuss how the
renovation stands as an example of the public and private partnership that is
revitalizing the Midtown Harrisburg community.

This month's program will feature Part-Two of Pennsylvania’s
Rare Books Tour. During the second segment of his visit to
the State Library, Piccola is given a private tour of the
new Rare Books Collection Library by Cornelius Rusnov, the
architect for the Rare Collections Library Project. The
newly designed, state-of-the-art Rare Collections Library
includes a vault which will now house Pennsylvania’s
collection of invaluable and irreplaceable books and
periodicals. The new facility is able to preserve the
historic collections through environmentally-controlled and
safety systems. Books and other materials will be available
for the public to view in the near future. For more

This month's program will include Part-One of Pennsylvania's
Rare Books Tour. Piccola visits the State Library to view
some of the Commonwealth's oldest and rarest books and
newspapers that have been preserved and restored after more
than 250 years. Clare Zales, Deputy Secretary of the
Department of Education/Commissioner of Libraries and Kurt
Bodling, Rare Books Librarian, give Piccola a sneak peak of
the collection including the 422-volume General Assembly
Collection. Part-Two of Piccola’s library series will air in
September and feature the new state-of-the-art facility
within the State Library which will house these national
treasures for generations to come.

Piccola's July Cable Show Celebrates 100 Years of
Hersheypark
Hersheypark has undergone many changes since it opened in
1907. In this month's show, Piccola celebrates 100 years of
Hersheypark by talking with Garrett Gallia, Director of
Corporate Relations, about the new additions for this year's
centennial celebration. Gary Chubb, Director of Maintenance
at Hersheypark, walks Piccola through "The Boardwalk," a new
themed area and $21 million dollar birthday gift to its
visitors featuring five distinctive water attractions
equipped with many lifeguards. During the program, Charlie
Gipe, Hersheypark chef, also discusses with Piccola the
special centennial food created for the year’s festivities.
Finally, Piccola visits the Hershey Museum and is given a
tour by Amy Bischof, Senior Curator, of the new exhibit
which opened in May to commemorate 100 years of Hersheypark
history.

This month's show takes a close look at the Capital Area
School for the Arts (CASA), a high school program for
qualified students in the Central Pennsylvania region
interested in expanding their education in the arts
including dance, film, video, music, visual arts, and
theater. Founded in 2001 through a partnership between the
Capital Intermediate Unit and Open Stage of Harrisburg, CASA
is located in the heart of Harrisburg (Salem United
Methodist Church) and uses the city as its classroom giving
students access to resources downtown. During the program,
Anne Alsedek, Program Director of CASA, and other
administrators discuss with Piccola the school's history,
its six-year accomplishments, and programs available to
students and provide a tour of CASA's various classrooms.

This month's show takes a look at the possibility of
convening a constitutional convention in Pennsylvania
including its relevance for state government in this age of
reform. Professor Bruce Ledewitz from the Duquesne
University School of Law and Matt Brouillette from the
Commonwealth Foundation discuss with Piccola the history of
constitutional conventions, what its potential might be for
the Commonwealth, and how the process might work. The
program also features footage from two recent public
hearings held in Pittsburgh and Harrisburg by the Senate
State Government Committee chaired by Piccola with the
purpose to gather information on how a constitutional
convention is convened, how it should be structured, and
what sections of the Constitution should be addressed.

This month's show takes a close look at Governor
Rendell’s $27.5 billion dollar spending plan for the 2007-08
fiscal year. Piccola discusses the budget with the new
Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Gib
Armstrong. During the interview, Piccola and Armstrong share
some of their concerns with the budget including the
significant tax increases and new spending initiatives. The
program also includes reaction to the governor's budget
address from other members of the Senate Republican Caucus.

Even following historic renovations and expansion in recent years, the
Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex continues to be underutilized resulting in low
occupancy rates and operating losses. This month’s show takes a look at these
issues and the future of the facility, including legislation unveiled by Piccola
which creates a new Pennsylvania Exposition and Farm Show Authority comprised of
state, municipal, and private sector officials to oversee the operations of the
complex. The program features footage from Piccola’s recent press conference
when he unveiled the proposal and discussions with Harrisburg Mayor Stephen Reed
and Dauphin County Commissioner Jeff Haste.
