What’s the Big 33? Well, it’s more than a football game.
The best high school football players in Pennsylvania and Ohio clash in this annual game seen live by more than 19,000 and is televised in both state. But it also includes the U.S. Army Veterans All-Star Classic, the All-Star Cheerleaders, a prospect camp and a celebrity/sponsor golf outing.
There has never been a Super Bowl played without a Big 33 player.
Perhaps among its greatest sources of pride is its scholarship program. Since 1985, over $2,192,000 has been raised for academic scholarships. In 2003, the Big 33 awarded $160,000 in academic scholarships to high school seniors throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio. Another $1,505,000 has been earned since 1985 by local charities and high schools using the Big 33 fund raisers.
So what does it have to do with nursing? Among the scholarships granted by the Big 33 is one for future nurses. The Nursing Scholarship program provides financial assistance to high school seniors who exhibit excellence in a well rounded educational and extracurricular program and want to be a nurse.
The scholarships are made possible by the Annual Big 33 Football Classic and its scholarship sponsors, and are administered by the Big 33 Scholarship Foundation. To learn more about this and other Big 33 scholarships go to: http://www.big33.org/scholarships/index.shtml
